Options and Accessories for A J Way Chairs

A range of options and accessories are available for the A J Way range of rise recline and upright chairs, the exact cost of each chair depends on the specification of the chair and the fabric chosen. Delivery for these chairs is usually in the region of 6-8 weeks from order.

additional pocket - This can be added to rise recline chairs to have a pocket on both sides of the chair.

Handset Pocket - May be added as an optional extra if this is easier to access than standard handset loop. NB: Handsets may also be attached to the front or top of the arm by Velcro if required.

Detachable Legrest Pillow - A hollowfibre pillow which is strapped around the upholstery on the lower section of legrest to give additional softness and height to the elevated legrest. May be removed if no longer required.

Detachable Wrap - All the armchair riser recliners may be supplied with the option of a detachable wrap to assist cleaning or to allow the wrap to be replaced should it become soiled. This wrap is fastened with Velcro behind the back of the seat and underneath the end of the legrest.

Antimacassar - An antimacassar may be used for any of the chairs to help prevent staining or marking of the fabric behind the sitter’s head

Armcaps - Pair of armcaps for riser recliner chairs. NB: These are a loose fit and may not fit snugly. Please note they may slip during the rising movement of the chair and we advise removing them before operating the seat rise action to ensure user safety.

Hollowfibre Neck Pillow - A soft and comfortable neck pillow on an adjustable weighted flap, with a zip at rear to allow access so thickness of roll may be reduced if required.

D shaped neck pillow - A Soft rounded foam head or neck cushion attached to a fibre board on adjustable weighted flap.

Contemporary Neck Pillow - A Shaped foam pillow to fill the nape of neck on an adjustable weighted flap. Available in Two widths: Small 10” (255mm) or Medium 18” (460mm).

Lateral supports - Pair of supports shaped to fit around sitters’ side & back, upholstered to match chair & velcroed to long weighted flap of material which sits over backrest of chair to allow height adjustment. Supports may be moved in or out to maximise sitter's stability in the chair & should be held in place by arms/filled sides of the chair.

Wooden handgrips - May give added confidence when rising or sitting as they are easier to hold on to than the fully upholstered arms.

Detachable handset - A system whereby the entire handset may be removed to prevent inappropriate use of the chair.

White button handset - Handset with ivory coloured buttons, buttons stand out more clearly for the partially sighted.

Keylock Handset - Handset is inoperable if the key is removed from the key slot as a safety precaution to prevent inappropriate use of the chair. NB: It is important to check that the key could not accidentally be removed without the sitter’s knowledge so that the person is not left stranded in the chair.

Paddle switch handset - Suitable for single motor Chatsworth, Beaulieu, Osborne, Sandown & Tate chairs. Some clients find this easier to operate than the buttons of the standard handset as it may be operated with the thumb or finger or by pressing the switch on the arm of the chair.

Hazard sensor device - Available on all A.J.Way riser recliner chairs except Multi 6, the hazard sensor consists of a sensor strip around the underside of the chair base which detects an obstacle in its way as the chair is lowered. The chair action stops & lifts slightly away from any obstacle. Does not cover recline or footrest movement.

Occupancy sensor - A Pressure mat that may be incorporated within chair cushion to indicate when a user has left the chair.

Battery back up - All our riser recliner chairs come complete with basic battery backup which can be used once on a set of batteries to return the chair to normal sitting position. In areas with frequent power cuts we recommend a rechargeable battery backup pack or an AccuPack system. The rechargeable battery backup unit plugs into the transformer. When fully charged it should allow approximately 30 - 40 operations of the chair.

Accupack - Mains independent power supply enables a chair to be run without the need for a power socket in close proximity. The AccuPack unit needs recharging once or twice a week for up to 8 hours overnight, or as convenient. It gives 50 - 80 cycles of the chair on a charge. Audible alarm on low charge, giving sufficient power for 2-3 operations. AccuPack enables flexibility positioning of the chair, removes the need for trailing cables & doubles as a battery backup system.

Rubber wheels - Two front swivel and two rear lockable rubber wheels may be fitted to riser recliner chairs (rear lockable only on Multi 6) to minimise skidding on wood, laminate & vinyl flooring.

Polyurethane castors - These rear lockable castors are strongly recommended for domestic wooden, laminate or vinyl floors in place of standard fit castors.

Non slip glides - Non-slip Glides may be fitted in place of castors to help prevent the chair moving on a wooden, laminate or vinyl floor. NB: These obviously make it more difficult to move the chair for cleaning purposes.

Drop in Max cushion - An integral but removable seat cushion sits behind the legrest wrap and facilitates the introduction of a prescribed or specialist pressure distributing or relieving cushion. For maximum effectiveness the cushion, if upholstered, should be covered in a two-way stretch vapour permeable cover such as Nytend or Panvelle Stretch.

Reflexion™ cushion - A Memory Foam Cushion that has an upper Visco memory foam layer which is energy absorbing and temperature sensitive. It moulds itself to a person’s shape and size helping reduce pressure points and spread body weight more evenly across the whole surface of the cushion.

Reflexion™ Pommel cushion - A Memory foam Cushion with Pommel - helps sitter hold position if prone to sliding forward in seat and thereby minimises shear. NB: this must be upholstered in Nytend vapour permeable material & supplied as a loose cushion only.

Gel Cushion - Has soft, non-liquid gel sheet set within the Vasco memory foam. The gel adjusts to body movement and helps maintain even weight distribution whilst protecting high pressure areas.

Vicair® Academy Twin 10 Cushion - A cushion containing hundreds of air-filled Smart Cells with low surface friction which allows them to move easily against each other & conform precisely to bodily contours to give a stable and comfortable body support and very good pressure distribution.

Westmeria dynamic air cushion - A 4”(100mm) thick cushion containing 6 dynamic cells which are powered by a compact mains operated unit. When switched on, alternate cells inflate and deflate under the sitter to relieve pressure from those areas in contact with the cushion. The Westmeria Cushion may be placed on a non-slip base on many models of our high seat chairs and may be used very effectively in the Drop-in Max riser recliner chairs. There needs to be space alongside the chair for the pump.

Probax™ seating - An innovative foam-based seating technology which aims to support & tilt the pelvis very subtly thus allowing the spine to adopt its natural ‘S’-shaped lordotic curve. The patented ProBax™ technology is a system whereby geometric inserts of various densities of foam are strategically placed within the existing cushion to support the body in a more upright & natural position.
